Delhi Government Issues Notification To Extend Financial Aid To Covid Victim’s Family Members

On 22nd June 2021, The Delhi Government’s Social Welfare Department issued notification on the Mukhyamantri COVID 19 Pariwar Aarthik Sahayata Yojana. Under this scheme, ex-gratia payment of Rs. 50,000 will be provided to those families who have lost a family member due to Coronavirus. Alongwith this, additional Rs. 2,500 will be given every month in cases where the deceased was the only sole earner of the family. The people who’ll come under this scheme must be residents of Delhi and there is no income criteria to apply for the compensation scheme.

Government also announced that one of the family member of the affected family will be enrolled as a civil defence volunteer and the state will ensure that the health and education need of the dependent’s children are taken care of. According to the said notice, following is the eligibility criteria to avail the compensation under this scheme:

  1. If the husband dies, who was the only earning member, then the wife shall be eligible to receive monthly financial aid of Rs. 2,500 for life alongwith the widow pension in addition. The same goes when the wife dies, who was the only earning member, then the husband will get monthly financial aid of Rs. 2,500 for life.
  2. When a single parent dies, then the child will be eligible to receive monthly aid of Rs.2,500 till the child attains the age of 25. The same rule goes in the case where both the parents die due to COVID 19.
  3. In case where a working son/daughter succumbs to Coronavirus, then the parents will be eligible to receive monthly financial aid of Rs. 2,500 for life alongwith their old age pension.
  4. In case where the brother or sister of a physically or intellectually challenged person (to whom they are dependent on) succumbs to Coronavirus, then the person is eligible to receive monthly financial aid of Rs. 2,500 for life. But If the husband or wife of the deceased is receiving the aid then the person will not be eligible to avail the aid.

Application Procedure:

To avail the benefits of the said scheme, one must file an online application on the portal of the District Social Welfare Officers of Department. The following information has to be attached in the application:

  1. Proof of Residence of both beneficiary and Deceased.
  2. Death Certificate, alongwith Proof of COVID death.
  3. Documents to verify the relationship between applicant and deceased.
  4. Bank Details of applicant.
  5. Disability Certificate (if available)
  6. Age Proof of the dependent children.

In case the application gets rejected due to any reasons then the Sub-divisional Magistrate will forward the same to District Magistrate. The authority will also provide the applicants the details of the appellate authority.

The Scheme of providing One time Ex-gratia payment to the family of deceased:

In the case where death of a person is caused due to Coronavirus, then under this scheme, ex-gratia payment of Rs. 50,000 will be provided to those families. This financial aid will be given to the family regardless the fact that whether the deceased person was the only earner of the family or not.
